Sarah Bain

Sarah is a communications and public affairs professional with more than 15 years of experience in stakeholder relations and public engagement.

At H+K, Sarah plays a key role in integrating and developing our Communications and Public Engagement offering. She has worked in diverse communications and stakeholder relations positions, conducting public consultations, advising on outreach, leveraging strategic relationships with media and facilitating internal communications. Her knowledge of the political landscape and her depth of communications experience make her a strategic asset. 

She has provided advice to cabinet ministers, the Liberal Party of Canada, federal, territorial and municipal governments, and leading corporations and associations (Loblaw Companies Ltd., Rocky Mountaineer, National Access Cannabis and Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities). She has worked with and helped clients navigate public engagement and policy issues in a range of sectors including health, research, infrastructure, transportation, rural affairs and most recently in the emerging cannabis sector. 

Prior to becoming an Associate at H+K, Sarah was Vice President, Public and Corporate Affairs at the firm where she provided strategic advice regarding medical cannabis and the emerging regime of legalized cannabis. She was registered to lobby the government regarding policies and regulations relating to the distribution of cannabis, and helped her clients understand Health Canada guidelines and the legislative process as Canada moves towards implementation of the Cannabis Act.

Sarah holds a bachelor’s degree with honours from the University of Ottawa, which included an International Exchange at l’Université de Picardie. She also completed the Queen’s University, Smith School of Business Executive MBA Program. Sarah completed the International Association for Public Participation (IAP2) Foundations in Effective Public Participating training program in 2021.
