Toronto, ON – September 20, 2011 – Mike Coates, president and CEO of Hill & Knowlton Canada, the country’s top-rated public relations and public affairs firm according to Ipsos- Reid, today announced new roles in the company’s practice leadership.

Kadi Kaljuste, a senior vice president who has been the agency’s national service leader for marketing communications since 2001, has been given a new and special responsibility to build PR business with the agency’s WPP partners. Hilda Kinross is promoted to national marketing communications service leader. Steven MacKinnon becomes national leader of the newly-established financial communications and transactions practice. Kinross and MacKinnon will join the firm’s national senior management team, of which Kaljuste is already a member.

“These very separate mandates are extremely important to the delivery of our three-year business plan,” said Coates. “Our overall focus is on continuing to strengthen our operations by broadening our reach:  through our WPP network partners, through our well-established marketing communications group and through new opportunities like a new national practice around financial transactions.”

Kaljuste joined Hill & Knowlton Canada in 2000 and established and grew the marketing communications practice at the agency. She has also served as healthcare practice director and deputy general manager of the Toronto office.

In her new role, Kaljuste will lever her deep experience in integrated marketing to develop new business opportunities and partnerships from within the WPP network of companies, with a particular focus on advertising agency partners. She will also continue to counsel existing H&K clients.

Hilda Kinross has been with Hill & Knowlton Canada for 14 years. She began her career at the company in the Toronto technology communications practice, where she led some of the company’s largest and longest-standing client assignments. From there, she became head of the Toronto marketing communications group in 2007, providing leadership to a team of consultants and a growing list of top-tier clients.

Steven MacKinnon has led several, high-profile transactions since he joined Hill & Knowlton Canada in 2007 as group leader of the Ottawa communications team. Based in Ottawa and fully bilingual, MacKinnon has developed public relations and public affairs strategies for takeover defenses, divestitures, bankruptcies and acquisitions, including Canada’s largest-ever foreign acquisition. Most recently, he was national director of financial transactions.

“We’re well positioned to build on the real momentum we’ve seen in two different but significant areas of our business: marketing communications and financial transactions,” continued Coates. “These changes will help to bring different perspectives to these areas, as well as a special and much-needed focus on better integrating with other WPP agencies.”

These appointments are effective immediately.
