October 7, 2020, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced an investment of $1.8 billion to retool Ford’s Oakville Assembly Complex into a global hub for battery electric vehicle production.
Today’s announcement, which includes contributions of $295 million from each of the federal and Ontario governments, will see that the Oakville Assembly Complex becomes one of Ford’s highest volume battery electric vehicle plants in North America. Electric vehicles are expected to be produced at the Oakville Assembly Complex beginning in 2025.
Later this afternoon, Ontario Minister of Education, Stephen Lecce, issued a statement regarding the hiring to Dr. Joshua Tepper as Education Health Advisor.
Earlier today, the Ontario government also announced the Reconnect Festival and Event Program to support municipalities and event organizers during COVID-19.

Ontario Hires Education Health Advisor
This afternoon, Minister Lecce issued a statement to announce the hiring to Dr. Joshua Tepper as Education Health Advisor for Ontario.
Dr. Tepper’s role will involve working with Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. David Williams and Coordinator of the Provincial Outbreak Response, Dr. Dirk Huyer, as well as ministries and school boards, to advise the government in ensuring safe school environments.
Dr. Tepper has experience as a former President of North York General Hospital, Vice-President of Education at Sunnybrook, and a senior civil servant in the Ministry of Health. His appointment began on October 6, 2020 and will last for the duration of the 2020-21 school year.
Support for Local Festivals and Events
Earlier today, the Ontario government announced the Reconnect Festival and Event Program to promote creative and safe programs during COVID-19. Ontario will invest $9 million through this program to support municipalities and event organizers in offering online, drive-through, and other innovative experiences ahead of Remembrance Day and the upcoming holiday season.
Funding may be used for expenses related to programming and production, promotion, mobile applications and website development, and implementation of health and safety measures.
The application period for the Reconnect Festival and Event Program runs from October 8 until December 1, 2020.
